Golden………My View into the Crystal Ball……..2057
- The Muller Plan in built and running smoothly. The grassy areas over the road tunnels are planted and have trails connecting neighborhoods on each side of the highway. Noise is at a minimum!
- All of the towers are gone from Lookout Mountain, and have been relocated to Squaw Mountain, providing the whole metro area with TV access and cell phone use, as well as the new Internet technology. We are all connected Wireless.
- Golden is completely built out……..surrounded by open space and linked by parks and trails. Residents, and children, are able to walk or bike to schools, shopping, and parks.
- The downtown is vibrant and colorful, with interesting shops and a variety of dining options. The area of 11th to 13th is a pedestrian mall, with features to attract all ages to enjoy. It is also the area where events and Farmer’s Market are held. Traffic moves smoothly around this 2 block area to Jackson and Arapahoe.
- The Parks Dept has added skate board features to several of the parks and around the pond at Lion’s Park. The teen/pre-teen crowd is content and happy. Vandalism has decreased with the addition of play space for this age group.
- Neighborhoods are identified by attractive signage. Historic structures are maintained and adapted to new lifestyles and uses. Neighborhoods have maintained their identity by a public process and cohesive neighborhood groups.
- Affordable housing is available, near public transit, shopping, and schools.
- Golden and CSM and NREL have partnered to make this the Green Capital of the USA. Renewable energy is a priority for the City.
- The shopping areas north and south are meeting the needs of our residents, so most of the sales tax being spent comes back to Golden.
- Sound mitigation is completed along several of our highway/neighborhood areas.
- CSM and Golden have been successful with the rebuild of the Green Center into a combined Conference and Event Center for the Community.
- Light rail is widely accepted by Golden, and Transit Oriented Development is thriving at the south end of the city.
- The three city museums have combined and collaborated on a new Pioneer Museum/education and event center on the south side of the creek, west of the CCHP. City Hall and Administrative offices have expanded along the creek on the north side. The City Museums are working together to provide the best use of financial resources.
- And last…….but not least, the Parfet Park Bandshell is the most popular venue in town for wedding, music, theatre, lectures……appealing to all ages and steadfast in its multi-purpose benefit to Golden.
I am sure that I might have missed a point or two in my ‘dreaming’ so please e-mail your ‘dreams’ to me at karenoxman@aol.com
The Happiest of New Years to you all!
