Bicycle Master Plan Update Task Force

The BTF met from May to September 2008, and submitted its recommendations to Council in the Fall of 2008.

The City of Golden Bicycle Master Plan Update Task Force was established by City Council in April 2008, by Resolution 1852.  This resolution established the purpose and task for the group, and also established a process to appoint members.  Council sought members with a geographical and demographic diversity, especially including individuals who have traditionally not been active on formal City boards and commissions.  The task force is scheduled to work until early September 2008 and then to terminate after Council action on the task force recommendations, currently scheduled for October, 2008.

Task Description

Council established the task force to accomplish four goals:

  1. Review the City of Golden Bicycle Master Plan; and
  2. Assess any conditions that have changed since the plan was adopted in 2003, including progress made in completing the improvements identified in the plan; and
  3. Provide specific recommendations to City council and staff identifying any recommended updates to the plan; and
  4. Provide specific recommendations to City Council and staff for the 2009 – 2018 Capital Improvement Plan that will make it easier for citizens of all ages to bicycle for recreation and for transportation.

Preliminary Priorities

As a starting point, the task force was given the following priority groupings by City Council:

  1. Biking to schools; and
  2. Biking as an alternative method of transportation; and
  3. Additional recreational opportunities.

Meetings

The final meeting of the task force was Thursday, September 4, 2008.

The group presents its report to City Council on September 18, 2008 (Study Session) and September 25, 2008 (Public Hearing).
